Trying to figure out how in the world you are going to pay for the costs of getting that online degree can be an overwhelming task. The costs to take online courses and on site courses seems to increase as each school year goes by. We cannot control these rising costs, but we can control to a certain degree, the amount of money we spend on many items including textbooks. A motto that we should be employing is only buy cheap used textbooks.
Using this tactic alone can help any student save hundreds of dollars each year. I am not sure why the publishers of college textbooks seem to think that the perfect price for their product falls somewhere between the amounts of $100-$250 for each book. Not to mention that for the most part once the student has completed the course they will have little need of these valuable (to the publisher) pieces of information.
Of course, the price for buying these textbooks in a used condition might be considered by some as still being on the high priced side. However, buying textbooks in a used type of condition should shave at least a third off the price of a new book.
There are numerous places to find used textbooks. A starting point might be one of your fellow students. Make contact with them and see if any of them have the required books and would be willing to loan, sell, or even rent them to you. Let us not forget that we might also be able to trade books with someone else that is also in need. This book for that book might save both parties some cash. Another obvious spot to get used books will be the bookstore of the particular college that you are enrolled. Finally, there are multitudes of online sources to fulfill your used textbook needs.
Sell Books for Cash
Once the course work is completed and you find that you have little need for the textbooks in question, why not sell them to the college bookstore. You will not get your complete purchase price back, but you will get a large portion returned to you. If you so choose, the possibility exists that you may be able to get credit towards your next book order.
A word or two of warning about buying used textbooks. Just as with used cars, used textbooks can vary in condition. Some of these books can seem as if they are in a new condition, as if they had never been opened. While others still might be full of notes and marked with underlining and highlighting until they are barely readable. These textbooks look as if they had been in an accident and are in need of repairs. Use care in making your purchases of textbooks. Make sure that the seller will verify the condition of the books in question before you purchase them.
We are all looking for ways to save money in our daily lives. Working towards those online degrees is not any different. When we only buy cheap used textbooks, we are helping ourselves out a great deal.
